Rhea Ripley, the current WWE Women’s Champion and a marquee performer on the SmackDown roster, disclosed Thursday that she had undergone surgical intervention on her right knee. The announcement came through a social media statement in which Ripley acknowledged the cumulative toll of nearly 14 years competing in professional wrestling and athletics.

Ripley explained that while surgery was not her initial preference for addressing the injury, her condition deteriorated to the point where the procedure became necessary. She expressed optimism about recovery, stating her intention to return to in-ring action and resume her career at full capacity.

The 25-time Women’s Champion has been absent from SmackDown programming since June 5, leaving her unable to compete at Night of Champions and SummerSlam. WWE subsequently crowned an interim women’s titleholder during the SummerSlam event over the weekend.

Chelsea Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, defeating Tiffany Stratton, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend and Charlotte Flair in a ladder match format. This marked Green’s first world championship reign, positioning her as the division’s temporary leader pending Ripley’s return and potential title unification bout.
