The proposal emerged amid ongoing debate within the league regarding transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, triggered by comments from Phoenix Mercury player Sophie Cunningham opposing such participation.

Travis posted his challenge on social media, positioning the wager as a way to settle questions about competitive differences between elite women’s and high school boys’ basketball teams. For a franchise with estimated annual revenue of $33 million and a Forbes valuation of $300 million, the $10 million prize would represent a significant financial incentive. The WNBA, the Aces organization, and league coaches have not publicly addressed the offer as of publication.

Travis subsequently reported that high school boys teams across the country have expressed interest in accepting the challenge, while the Aces have maintained their silence on the matter. He criticized the league’s reluctance to issue a formal eligibility statement restricting participation to players assigned female at birth, noting that the Olympics and professional tennis tours have adopted such policies without controversy.
