A resident of Pembroke Pines discovered an uninvited reptile in her swimming pool early Sunday morning when her dog’s barking alerted her to an unusual visitor. Liliana Gonzalez, who lives in the Laguna Isles neighborhood, spotted the alligator while it swam in her backyard pool and immediately contacted local authorities for assistance.
A licensed trapper responded to the call and successfully removed the alligator from the pool, transporting it to a suitable natural habitat away from residential areas. Gonzalez suspects the animal scaled the fence surrounding her property to gain access to the pool and yard.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission continues to remind residents living near bodies of water such as ponds and canals to remain vigilant about wildlife encounters and refrain from feeding wild alligators. Homeowners concerned about alligator activity near their properties can contact the FWC’s Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-392-4286 for guidance and assistance.
