Julie Tétart, a French basketball center standing 6’3″, has posted eye-catching statistics in European competition but remains unclear whether a professional opportunity in the United States lies ahead. The 34-year-old athlete averaged 21 points and 20 rebounds per game during the 2025-26 season with a Monaco club competing in France’s second-tier Ligue 2, leading the league in both categories.
Tétart’s performance was singular enough that French sports observers expressed surprise when she did not receive the league’s most prestigious individual award. She did claim Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Domestic Player of the Year honors. The dominance of her statistics prompted some to allege collusion among league voters responsible for determining major awards.
When asked directly about pursuing a WNBA career, Tétart initially expressed hesitation, citing obstacles related to United States policy rather than athletic qualifications. Upon further discussion, the French native acknowledged she would entertain an offer if one materialized, stating she would not decline an opportunity to play professionally in America.
Tétart came out as transgender in October 2021. Her presence in professional women’s competition has generated debate within international sports communities regarding eligibility standards and competitive fairness.
