Miami-Dade Schools Welcomes 200 New Teachers With Induction Program in Hialeah

Superintendent José Dotres convened approximately 200 newly hired teachers Monday at American Senior High School in Hialeah for the district’s New Teacher Induction program. The training session featured specialized workshops addressing lesson planning, classroom discipline methods, and curriculum pacing guidelines to prepare educators for the upcoming school year. Dotres emphasized his confidence in the district’s standing, declaring it “the best school district in this country” to the assembled group.

Among the new educators is Lenroy Williams, who will oversee Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programming, a federally supported military initiative housed in public schools. Williams expressed enthusiasm about his position, noting the unique opportunity to maintain his military connection while influencing student development. “This is the best of both worlds for me,” he stated.

Maralys Valdes, transitioning from an entrepreneurial career in real estate, will teach fifth-grade students at Ben Sheppard Elementary School in Hialeah. Valdes attributed her professional shift to optimal timing, seeing education as her next career chapter.

The academic calendar for Miami-Dade County Public Schools begins August 13 for students, though the district will discontinue systemwide complimentary meal service. The district recently eliminated 168 positions and shuttered nine schools including Mandarin Lakes K-8 Academy, Robert Russa Moton Elementary, Parkway Elementary, and Rainbow Park Elementary due to enrollment declines.
