Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio was treated for non-life threatening injuries following a Sunday morning vehicle collision in Toledo, according to a statement released by her congressional office. The 80-year-old lawmaker was a passenger in a car struck while en route to church services when the accident occurred.
Kaptur remains in stable condition and described as alert and active, her office reported. She anticipates resuming her full congressional schedule in the coming days without complications from the incident.
The timing of the accident coincides with the House’s summer recess period, meaning Kaptur’s absence from Washington poses no immediate scheduling conflicts. Toledo police and fire department first responders arrived quickly at the scene and provided medical assistance to those involved in the crash.
Kaptur, the longest-serving female representative in House history, currently faces a competitive rematch against former state Rep. Derek Merrin. She narrowly retained her seat in 2024 with a margin exceeding 0.5%, while a libertarian candidate captured approximately 4 percent of the vote.
The Toledo Police Department’s traffic division had not yet responded to inquiries regarding ongoing investigation details into the accident.
