Hundreds of mourners filled a Queens funeral home Wednesday to pay final respects to Staff Sgt. Angel Rampersad, a U.S. servicemember killed when Iranian forces launched a ballistic missile assault against American personnel stationed at a military installation in Jordan. New York state officials and local dignitaries joined family members and military colleagues in a solemn ceremony celebrating Rampersad’s service and sacrifice.
The 27-year-old soldier, a native of the New York City borough, died in the January attack that targeted U.S. forces across the Middle East. His death marked one of several casualties sustained during the Iranian retaliatory strike, which military officials said was among the most significant direct attacks on American troops in the region in recent years.
Military personnel rendered full honors during the funeral proceedings, with uniformed servicemembers standing in formation as Rampersad’s casket was carried through the ceremony. Attendees spoke of his dedication to his unit and his commitment to protecting fellow soldiers throughout his military career.
