Storm Reid is stepping into the music industry to give fans a glimpse of who she really is beyond her acclaimed acting roles. The 23-year-old Atlanta native, known for her Emmy-winning performances in “Euphoria” and “The Last of Us,” released her single “Shotty” on Friday as part of a deliberate effort to showcase a less curated version of herself to the world.
Reid has already recorded more than 25 songs over the past year and launched her debut single “Clean Sweep” earlier in her musical journey. She operates independently through her label, 1720 Music, a decision she credits with granting her greater creative control while keeping future partnerships with major labels as a possibility.
The actress, who graduated from the University of Southern California last year, views music as equally significant to her acting career. She plans to focus on producing her first EP following completion of work on Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut film “Get Lite,” which she credits with pushing her outside her comfort zone as a performer and dancer.
Reid’s independent approach extends beyond her own artistry. She expressed interest in using her platform to support emerging talent, stating she wants to sign songwriters, producers and other artists through her label. She emphasized that ownership provides the most meaningful opportunity to create professional doors for others in the industry.
Looking ahead, Reid will continue acting in Netflix’s “Roommates” and other projects while developing her music presence. She acknowledged that years in Hollywood have equipped her to handle public criticism, noting that despite detractors, her Emmy award remains a tangible testament to her accomplishments.
