The San Francisco 49ers have moved to bolster their receiving options after Ricky Pearsall suffered a knee injury during early training camp preparations. The setback prompted the organization to pursue a familiar solution from their recent past, leading to a reunion with a proven veteran pass-catcher.
All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel has agreed to a one-year contract with the 49ers worth up to $7 million, according to ESPN. The deal reunites Samuel with the franchise that originally invested a second-round draft pick in the South Carolina product back in 2019.
Samuel spent the first six seasons of his professional career with San Francisco, contributing to two Super Bowl appearances during his tenure. The 2021 All-Pro selection recorded 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns that season, establishing himself as one of the league’s most dynamic offensive weapons.
After being traded to Washington in 2025 for a fifth-round draft pick, Samuel recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns with the Commanders last season. He entered free agency in March and will now provide depth to San Francisco’s receiving unit during Pearsall’s recovery.
