Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley rejected characterizations that the team is entering a rebuilding phase, insisting instead that winning and continuous improvement remain the organization’s primary objectives. Speaking to reporters Thursday as the team completed its second day of training camp, Hafley addressed the significant personnel moves that reshaped the roster during the offseason.

The Dolphins parted ways with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and linebacker Bradley Chubb in recent months. Additionally, the team traded receiver Jaylen Waddle to Denver and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to New York, marking a substantial overhaul of the roster.

Hafley stated that no competitive player or coach at the professional level would embrace a rebuild mentality. He emphasized that the locker room culture centers on competing daily, developing talent, and pursuing victories while constantly striving to improve through practice and game preparation.

The Dolphins opened camp with a new coaching staff and quarterback Malik Willis replacing Tagovailoa. Hafley cautioned against drawing conclusions from early practice sessions, highlighting the critical importance of consistency demonstrated over extended periods.

A key focus during camp has involved restructuring drills to replicate actual game conditions more closely. The team has increased 11-on-11 work and reduced 7-on-7 drills to better prepare players for the demands of competitive football, according to Hafley’s methodology.

Running back De’Von Achane is being gradually reintegrated into practice after time away from competition. Hafley indicated the team will carefully increase Achane’s participation throughout camp as he rebuilds his conditioning and game readiness.

The Dolphins’ first public training camp practice is scheduled for Sunday at 9:30 a.m. as Hafley continues establishing the team’s cultural foundation entering the upcoming season.
