Surveillance Video Released in Search for Missing North Carolina Woman in Grenada

Authorities investigating the disappearance of a North Carolina woman have released surveillance video that may capture the final moments before she entered the water at a Caribbean resort. Elizabeth “Liz” Waddell, 43, a physical therapist from Cary, vanished on July 22 while vacationing in Grenada with a friend. The footage, released by her family on YouTube, appears to show a person matching Waddell’s description walking near a poolside area with a towel before proceeding toward the water and diving in to swim.

The video originated from security cameras at an Airbnb property where Waddell was staying on Grand Anse Beach. Investigators believe the recording may represent the last known sighting of the woman alive, though authorities have not confirmed the person in the footage is definitively Waddell. Her husband, Cailen Waddell, arrived in Grenada two days after her disappearance and has been assisting search efforts on the ground.

In a statement this week, Cailen Waddell said he joined local authorities and the U.S. Embassy in concluding that foul play did not occur in his wife’s disappearance. He noted the family had conducted exhaustive search efforts and consulted extensively with relevant authorities before reaching that determination. Commissioner Randy Connaught of the Royal Grenada Police Force cautioned on Wednesday that investigators have not yet reached final conclusions about what happened.

Search operations have employed dive teams, drone technology, and canine units in attempts to locate any evidence related to Waddell’s case. The Royal Grenada Police Force said the investigation remains active, with detectives pursuing multiple investigative leads and requesting that anyone with information contact authorities.
