Zelenskyy Claims Putin Surrendered Strategic Advantage as Ukraine Expands Domestic Defense Manufacturing

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared in a Fox News interview Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has surrendered the strategic initiative in the ongoing conflict, citing Ukraine’s rapid expansion of domestic military-technology capabilities. Speaking with host Sean Hannity following the funeral services for late Senator Lindsey Graham, Zelenskyy outlined how technological advancement has fundamentally altered battlefield conditions between the two nations.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has established a thriving defense-innovation sector comprising approximately 500 companies developing sophisticated weapons systems since Putin’s failed prediction of a quick occupation at war’s outset. He characterized the conflict as an accelerating technological race where equipment becomes outdated within months, necessitating constant innovation to maintain competitive advantage. “We have to be quicker than Putin because Putin has more people… and we have to save our people and use more technologies,” Zelenskyy stated.

The Ukrainian leader attributed the shift in momentum to expanded military capabilities, including long-range strikes deep into Russian territory and attacks disrupting power infrastructure in Crimea. Zelenskyy cited mounting Russian casualties, reporting losses of 30,000 soldiers monthly, as evidence that Moscow no longer controls the conflict’s direction. He contended that initiative has decisively transferred from the Kremlin to Kyiv.

Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s continued efforts to negotiate a ceasefire and facilitate diplomatic resolution, noting that Putin has shown no interest in dialogue since their last conversation in 2020. He pledged daily appeals for negotiations while acknowledging Russia’s reluctance to pursue peaceful settlement.

During remarks honoring Graham, whom he described as Ukraine’s earliest and most committed supporter, Zelenskyy noted the senator visited approximately 10 times including tours near active combat zones. Zelenskyy praised the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which advanced through the Senate with an 86–12 bipartisan vote and proceeded to the House with provisions for sweeping sanctions targeting Russia’s war apparatus.

Earlier Tuesday, Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss expanded defense collaboration. Trump agreed to furnish licenses enabling Ukraine to manufacture American-designed Patriot missiles domestically, according to Zelenskyy. Trump characterized the meeting as highly successful on social media.
