The brief window generates significant interest among fishing enthusiasts seeking to catch the prized crustaceans under controlled conditions that differ substantially from the regular lobster season.
Participants must obtain the appropriate fishing license and permit before attempting to harvest any lobsters, with regulations strictly enforced throughout the season. The carapace of each lobster must measure at least three inches when assessed in the water, and harvesters are prohibited from taking any egg-bearing females under any circumstances.
Daily catch limits vary by location: most fishing areas allow a maximum of 12 lobsters per person, though Biscayne National Park and Monroe County impose a reduced limit of six lobsters per individual per day.
