Harrison Bader’s troublesome season with the San Francisco Giants took another unfortunate turn this week when the struggling outfielder was injured in a scooter accident late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, the team confirmed. The incident compounds an already difficult campaign for Bader, who has appeared in only 30 games due to recurring foot problems.
Bader is batting .170 with a .198 on-base percentage and .358 slugging percentage as he battles plantar fasciitis for the second time in his major league career. The new injury from the scooter accident now requires an MRI to determine the full extent of the damage to his foot.
The 2021 Gold Glove Award winner is in the first year of a two-year contract with San Francisco worth more than $20 million. Bader has played for seven teams during his career, including a nearly six-season stint with the St. Louis Cardinals before trades sent him to the New York Yankees in 2022, followed by brief appearances with Cincinnati, the New York Mets, Minnesota and Philadelphia.
This is not Bader’s first scooter-related incident. While playing for the University of Florida in 2014, he was suspended for 19 games after drunkenly crashing a scooter into a parked truck. The Giants, currently tied for the second-worst record in the National League, are expected to be active traders ahead of next week’s deadline.
