Hull Executes Elaborate Lottery Ticket Prank on Long-Time Caddie at Women’s British Open

Adam Woodward, who has carried Hull’s bag for more than a decade through numerous victories, became the unwitting target of her scheme when she presented him with a counterfeit scratch-off lottery ticket in the player’s lounge on Tuesday morning.

Hull revealed she had purchased the fake ticket from a prank shop in Blackpool the previous evening before bringing it to the course. When Woodward scratched off the ticket, he initially believed he had struck it rich with a $100,000 prize, prompting him to remove his hat and glasses in celebration while announcing his windfall throughout the lounge.

According to Hull’s account, Woodward exhibited visible signs of excitement, sweating and trembling as he announced his supposed big win and declared he would take the day off. The caddie’s reaction persisted until Hull finally revealed the ticket’s fraudulent nature, a moment she described as nearly prompting him to quit his position.

Hull, currently ranked seventh globally, used the anecdote to underscore her motivation at major championships, noting the substantial prize purses drive her competitive performance. The golfer has finished as runner-up in three of five major championships during her career and seeks her first major title in her home country this weekend.
