TikTok Influencer Found Dead in Murder-Suicide After Exposing Husband’s Alleged Child Abuse

Sara Duffey, a TikTok influencer known online as Sara Gilson, was discovered dead alongside her estranged husband Jeremiah Shawn Duffey in what Owasso, Oklahoma, police are investigating as a murder-suicide. A child inside the residence contacted 911 and informed dispatchers that the stepfather had shot the mother, according to reporting from KTUL.

Weeks before her death, Duffey posted a video on July 11 captioned with a reference to a Netflix documentary about her soon-to-be ex-husband, revealing she had recently discovered he was a pedophile. Her public accusation came after police received reports in June from a parent and child alleging that Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, who worked as a basketball coach, had inappropriately touched a female child during a school event.

Following the June 9 report, a second protective order was filed by another woman who claimed Duffey had been caught kissing and touching her 15-year-old daughter, a player on his youth basketball team. According to The Oklahoman, he allegedly gave the girl money to maintain silence about the abuse.

Lyle Landers, Sara Duffey’s ex-husband from a previous relationship, told People magazine he had repeatedly urged her to leave Jeremiah Shawn Duffey. “I had begged her for five years to get away from him,” Landers stated, adding that he offered assistance but Jeremiah appeared to maintain psychological control over her.

Landers described Sara as a devoted mother whose protective instincts ultimately cost her life. Police had referred the abuse allegations against Jeremiah Shawn Duffey to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and similar accusations had surfaced previously, investigators said.
