The Arizona Cardinals have resolved their contract standoff with quarterback Jacoby Brissett, agreeing to boost his compensation for the upcoming 2026 season. The agreement provides Brissett with a $15.5 million base salary, a significant increase from his original $4.88 million figure, with incentives potentially pushing the total package to $21 million.
Brissett’s negotiating position strengthened following the Cardinals’ release of longtime starter Kyler Murray, who subsequently signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Rather than pursue a contract extension, Brissett sought a pay adjustment reflective of his expected role as the team’s starting quarterback. His holdout from spring workouts ultimately proved effective, though he reported to training camp as scheduled.
The quarterback gained experience during the 2025 season when Murray suffered a foot injury, demonstrating improved efficiency running the Cardinals’ offense alongside skill position standouts Trey McBride and Marvin Harrison Jr. New head coach Mike LaFleur took over the position vacated by Jonathan Gannon’s firing, while Arizona brought in competition through the drafting of Miami’s Carson Beck and the signing of Gardner Minshew II.
Brissett remains ineligible for free agency following this upcoming season and must still earn the Week 1 starting assignment against the Los Angeles Chargers over his competition. The Cardinals supplemented their roster by selecting Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love third overall in April, bolstering offensive weapons available to the quarterback.
