Ty France collected three runs batted in as the San Diego Padres dominated the Miami Marlins 7-2 on Saturday, prolonging the home team’s skid to 11 consecutive defeats. The Padres’ offensive output proved decisive, with France providing crucial run-scoring hits and the pitching staff limiting Miami’s ability to mount a comeback.
France contributed a two-run single during the third inning and added another RBI single in the eighth, establishing himself as the game’s offensive catalyst. Additional run-scoring opportunities emerged when Gavin Sheets recorded a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Jase Bowen added a two-run single in the eighth, pushing San Diego’s advantage to 6-1. Jake Cronenworth capped the scoring in the ninth with a single that brought home Fernando Tatis Jr., while Jackson Merrill finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored as the Padres accumulated 11 hits combined.
Padres pitcher JP Sears entered the contest with two outs in the third inning and proved difficult to hit, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters across 3 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander issued one walk in a dominant relief appearance.
Miami’s offensive struggles continued throughout the contest, with Esteury Ruiz scoring on a sacrifice fly by Otto Lopez in the third inning. Kyle Stowers managed the Marlins’ second run with an RBI single into the gap in center field during the eighth inning, but the efforts fell short of overcoming San Diego’s early advantage.
Marlins starter Eury Pérez allowed three earned runs across seven innings while permitting seven hits, striking out two and walking one. The loss dropped Pérez to 5-8 on the season, while Miami’s last victory dated back to a win against the Mariners before the All-Star break.
Walker Buehler, carrying a 6-5 record and 5.23 ERA, will take the mound for the Padres on Sunday. The Marlins will counter with Janson Junk, who holds a 4-6 record with a 5.09 earned run average.
