Sammy Hagar Extends Olive Branch to David Lee Roth Following Tour Cancellations

David Lee Roth’s attempted return to touring this summer encountered a significant setback when multiple performances were abruptly scrapped. Several dates across Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky and Illinois have been removed from the schedule, leaving fans searching for explanations about the unexpected pullback.

The cancellations triggered an immediate response from Sammy Hagar, who set aside years of public friction to publicly express support for his former bandmate. In an emotional video message, Hagar conveyed genuine concern for Roth’s wellbeing, stating he hoped the canceled dates did not stem from health complications.

Only Roth’s July performances were affected by the cancellations. His five shows scheduled for August and September remain available for purchase through Ticketmaster, while his Aug. 7 Sturgis, South Dakota appearance continues to appear on his official website, suggesting those dates proceed as planned.

Hagar emphasized the irreplaceable nature of Van Halen’s classic lineup, which featured himself, Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony. He encouraged Roth to return whenever physically capable and extended an invitation for him to join his Las Vegas residency this September.

The public reconciliation represents a marked departure from the two vocalists’ long history of mutual criticism. After Roth left Van Halen in 1985, Hagar assumed frontman duties until 1996, later returning from 2003 to 2005, while Roth reclaimed the position full-time in 2006 until the band disbanded in 2020.

Roth announced his retirement in 2021 but reversed course to begin performing again in 2025. He has not yet publicly addressed the canceled dates or responded to Hagar’s invitation to perform together in Las Vegas.
