The Humane Society of Broward County is urging residents to open their homes to adoptable kittens as the shelter experiences a surge in feline arrivals during the summer months. The uptick coincides with the typical breeding season for community cats, resulting in a significant population of young animals awaiting placement in permanent homes.
Among the available kittens is Antonio, a 10-week-old male discovered in Broward County and transferred to the shelter after his finder was unable to provide him a permanent home. Matthew Seligman, a representative with the Humane Society of Broward County, noted that the facility currently houses numerous young cats eligible for adoption as local community felines continue producing litters throughout the summer period.
Seligman emphasized that spaying and neutering pets remains critical to controlling the homeless animal population across the region. The Humane Society of Broward County operates a public spay and neuter program, though prospective clients must book appointments in advance as availability frequently fills to capacity.
Prospective adopters interested in Antonio or other available kittens can visit the shelter to complete adoption paperwork either on-site or online prior to arrival. The application process typically requires minimal time, and qualified adopters often can take their newly adopted pet home the same day if the animal has already undergone spay or neuter surgery.
