Jonquel Jones powered Team Spoon to a 129-122 victory over Team Coop in Saturday night’s WNBA All-Star Game in Chicago, delivering 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in a performance that earned her Most Valuable Player honors. The New York Liberty center, 32, led eight teammates into double figures as the league’s marquee exhibition descended into an offensive showcase with minimal defensive intensity.
Caitlin Clark contributed 17 points for the winning squad, while Allisha Gray added 19 in a contest that featured 127 three-point attempts across both teams. Nneka Ogwumike scored 11 points for Team Spoon and surpassed Maya Moore’s previous record of 119 career All-Star Game points with that performance.
Team Coop’s offense proved potent despite the loss, with Kelsey Mitchell pouring in 28 points and Marina Mabrey adding 23, nearly all of which came during a first-half barrage. Dominique Malonga recorded a first-half dunk and finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds for the losing squad.
The WNBA marked its 30th season with the All-Star Game returning to Chicago for the first time since 2022, drawing a record attendance of 19,783 at the United Center. The larger venue reflected the league’s expanding popularity compared to the smaller Wintrust Arena downtown that previously hosted the event.
WNBA legends Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon assembled their rosters from a pool of fan-, media- and player-voted starters plus coach-selected reserves. Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon directed Cooper’s team while Minnesota’s Cheryl Reeve led Weatherspoon’s squad.
