Missouri Man Captured on Video Diving Off Bridge During High-Speed Police Chase

Authorities in Missouri captured dramatic video footage of a 26-year-old man’s escape attempt that ended with him plunging into a lake during an early-morning pursuit. Gavin Thor Lundgren of Kimberling City sprinted across a bridge and launched himself into Table Rock Lake on July 18 after fleeing from Stone County Sheriff’s deputies, according to footage released by the agency.

The incident began when deputies spotted Lundgren’s 2004 Chevrolet Malibu traveling at approximately 75 mph in a 45-mph zone around 1:50 a.m. When officers attempted to pull him over, Lundgren instead accelerated and led them on a chase before abandoning his vehicle and diving off the bridge into the water below.

Stone County Sheriff’s Office officials stated that Lundgren survived the fall and was taken into custody, though he resisted arrest and inflicted injuries on responding deputies. Three deputies sustained injuries during the apprehension, including facial bruising, hand and forearm cuts, and abrasions after Lundgren headbutted two of them during the struggle.

Lundgren faces charges of three counts of third-degree assault on a special victim, felony resisting arrest, fleeing from police, and careless driving. He is being held at the Stone County Jail without bond pending further proceedings.
