Orioles Stop Red Sox’s 15-Game Win Streak With 5-1 Victory in Doubleheader Nightcap

The Baltimore Orioles extinguished Boston’s historic 15-game winning streak on Wednesday night, capturing the nightcap of a doubleheader 5-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from Kyle Bradish. The victory prevented the Red Sox from extending their run, which matched the franchise record set by the 1946 team led by Ted Williams.

Boston’s impressive streak began following a 10-2 loss to Washington on July 1 at Fenway Park. The Red Sox had won the opening game of the doubleheader 6-3 to tie the 80-year-old club mark. The 15-game run represented the longest winning streak in Major League Baseball since the St. Louis Cardinals achieved the same feat in September 2021.

Bradish, making his first start since signing a $90 million, five-year contract covering 2027 through 2031 on Saturday, delivered six innings of one-run ball. The 29-year-old right-hander scattered four hits while striking out four and walking one batter. Three Orioles relievers combined to allow just one additional hit.

Baltimore erupted for four runs in the opening inning against Red Sox starter Eduardo Rivera, who recorded only two outs before being removed. Dylan Beavers drove in two runs with a single during the inning, while Johnathan Rodriguez added an RBI double off the Green Monster. The Orioles improved to 11 wins in their last 16 games.

The loss marked only the second setback for Boston in recent weeks. Masataka Yoshida contributed an RBI single for the Red Sox, who host Toronto beginning Friday. The Orioles, meanwhile, will open a series against Atlanta at home Friday without a confirmed starter yet named.
