Actress Kaylee Hottle, Star of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ Dies in Maryland Car Crash at 18

Kaylee Hottle, an 18-year-old deaf actress who gained prominence through her role in the monster franchise “Godzilla vs. Kong,” died Tuesday morning following a car accident in Maryland. Her father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed the incident during a livestream in which he explained in American Sign Language that he had traveled from Texas to recover his daughter’s body.

According to reports, Hottle was injured in the crash and her heart stopped while she was being transported to the hospital. The Virginia native, born into a multigenerational deaf family, had emerged as a rising talent and vocal advocate for deaf representation in the entertainment industry before her death.

Hottle secured her breakthrough role as Jia in “Godzilla vs. Kong” in 2021 and reprised the character three years later in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” Her authentic performance as a deaf girl with a distinctive bond to Kong drew critical acclaim and demonstrated the growing visibility of deaf actors in major studio productions.
