White House border czar Tom Homan announced plans for an expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in New York City, dismissing Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s recent defense of the municipality’s sanctuary status. Homan made the declaration during a Sunday appearance on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” stating bluntly that additional enforcement actions are forthcoming in the nation’s largest city.

The border czar declined to specify operational details, explaining that transparency could aid advocacy groups working to obstruct immigration enforcement efforts. He noted that ICE already maintains an active presence throughout New York City and the state, but emphasized that the scale of enforcement will increase substantially in coming weeks or months.

Homan’s remarks directly addressed comments Mamdani made during a Saturday New York Times interview, in which the mayor expressed confidence in New York’s commitment to declining participation in federal immigration enforcement operations. Mamdani argued the city will not cooperate with what he characterized as the administration’s expansive deportation agenda affecting individuals regardless of criminal background.

Responding to the mayor’s position, Homan asserted that sanctuary policies do not override federal immigration law or prevent ICE operations. He contended that all individuals present unlawfully in the United States must be deported under principles of legal enforcement, and suggested those opposing such policies should petition Congress to amend existing statutes.

Holan framed aggressive border enforcement and mass deportations as central campaign commitments that secured Trump’s presidency, arguing that implementation of these policies reflects the administration’s dedication to its electoral promises regarding immigration control and border security.
