Ten Wounded in Early Morning Mass Shooting at Tucson Entertainment District

A shooting rampage in downtown Tucson, Arizona left at least 10 people injured Sunday morning when an unidentified gunman began firing in a crowded nightlife area. The suspect attempted to leave the scene but was shot by a police officer who responded to the incident and was transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name.

The violence erupted around 2 a.m. on the 100 block of East Congress Street, an entertainment hub featuring numerous bars, restaurants and clubs. Nine victims sustained gunshot wounds, primarily affecting their arms and legs, according to Mayor Regina Romero. Officers patrolling the vicinity heard the gunfire and immediately rushed to the location on foot.

Police encountered a man fleeing the scene, and after he disregarded commands from officers, a uniformed officer discharged his weapon to stop the suspect. Emergency responders provided medical assistance to victims before Tucson Fire Department personnel transported all injured individuals to local hospitals for treatment. No police officers were harmed during the response.

Romero released a statement condemning the shooting as “another serious and senseless act of gun violence” while calling attention to Arizona’s gun laws. She advocated for universal background checks, extreme risk legislation and increased funding for violence prevention programs. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting while TPD conducts a separate probe into potential policy violations.
