New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo raised alarm among team supporters Saturday when he executed a backflip at WWE’s Fanatics Fest activation, a risky maneuver for a player still rehabilitating from a significant leg injury. The second-year player from Arizona State, who has been sidelined and is currently on the mend, appeared to put considerable strain on his surgically repaired right leg during the landing of the stunt.
Skattebo participated in the event’s wrestler entrance recreation activity, selecting Triple H and performing to the legendary wrestler’s Motörhead entrance music, “The Game.” Rather than mimicking Triple H’s traditional water-spitting celebration, Skattebo personalized his performance by pointing to his injured leg before launching into the backflip that left Giants supporters grimacing at the apparent torque applied to his recovering limb.
The incident highlighted the unconventional nature of the athlete’s personality, as NFL team management typically must remind players recovering from severe leg injuries to avoid high-risk physical activities. Skattebo also demonstrated versatility at the event by successfully kicking a field goal with his left foot at some point during the day’s festivities.
The first-year running back had otherwise enjoyed a productive rookie campaign before his season was cut short by injury approximately nine months prior to the weekend appearance.
