Fort Myers Man Charged With Murder After Admitting to Shooting Mother, Setting House Fire

George Beemer, 23, was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree arson, and abuse of a dead human body in connection with his mother’s death in Fort Myers, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced. Beemer called 911 from his home reporting chest pain and was transported to a hospital, but emergency crews responding to a separate fire call at the same address discovered the severely burned body of his mother inside.

According to an arrest report obtained by WINK News, Beemer confessed to detectives that he shot his mother once and then poured gasoline around her body before igniting it. Beemer told investigators his actions were motivated by years of accumulated anger and claimed his mother had mistreated him, including allegations of abuse. He stated to detectives that he set the fire because “she wanted to be cremated,” the report indicated.

A friend of Beemer’s mother disputed his claims of abuse, telling WINK News the allegations were false and suggesting Beemer was using them as a defense mechanism. A former classmate, Madison Edwards, expressed surprise at the severity of the charges despite acknowledging she was not shocked by his arrest.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno praised the investigative efforts that led to Beemer’s swift arrest, crediting Major Crimes detectives and Crime Scene investigators for their detailed work. Beemer remains held at the Lee County Jail as the investigation continues.
