A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the magnitude scale rattled the Kumamoto area located on Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost main island, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. In response to the seismic activity, officials immediately issued a tsunami advisory for the affected region.
The Japan Meteorological Agency confirmed the preliminary magnitude reading and coordinated emergency response protocols following the tremor. Coastal residents in the warning zone were advised to take appropriate precautions.
