The 6-foot-4, 347-pound defensive lineman is contracted through the 2026 season with potential earnings up to $18 million if he completes all 17 games. However, Vea contends his compensation does not reflect his standing in the league, pointing out he ranks only 19th among interior defensive linemen in salary despite believing he performs at a substantially higher level. The Buccaneers have indicated they are not prepared to facilitate a trade simply to defuse the dispute.

Vea has emerged as the structural anchor of Tampa Bay’s defense since becoming a full-time starter in 2019. His combination of size, power, and mobility allows him to control the line of scrimmage and anchor against double-teams while preventing offensive linemen from reaching the second level. He was also instrumental in the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV championship team. Over the past five seasons, he has started 78 games despite missing five games in 2020 due to a fractured ankle.
