Koivun Captures First PGA Tour Victory Over World No. 1 Scheffler in Minnesota

Jackson Koivun claimed his first PGA Tour championship on Sunday at the 3M Open in Minnesota, finishing at 25-under par to edge world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by three strokes. The 21-year-old professional, who turned pro earlier this month, closed with a 5-under final round at TPC Twin Cities to secure victory and a $1.584 million prize check.

Koivun’s dominant third round propelled him toward the title, when he carded a tournament-record 10-under 61 that featured a 28 on the back nine—the best nine-hole score in tournament history. The performance moved him to 20-under heading into Sunday’s final round, positioning him in control of the event.

Despite a strong final day from Scheffler, who shot 8-under in the closing round with birdie streaks on both nines, the reigning world No. 1 could not overcome Koivun’s cushion. The 21-year-old professional remained composed through pressure moments, finishing bogey-free in the final round and closing with consecutive pars, including a par on the 18th hole to secure the triumph.

Koivun, the former top-ranked amateur, attributed his composure to blocking out distractions during the final stretch. “All throughout the crowd, I kept hearing, ‘Scottie’s coming, Scottie’s coming,'” he said on the CBS broadcast. “I just tried to tone that out and keep playing the golf I knew I could.”
