President Donald Trump will reprise his role as honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup when the biennial golf competition takes place next month. The PGA Tour announced Saturday that Trump accepted the position at the request of tour leadership and Commissioner Brian Rolapp. The 2026 tournament will be held September 22-27 at Medinah Country Club in the Chicago area.
Trump previously held the honorary chairman title for the 2017 Presidents Cup at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, where he participated in the trophy presentation following the U.S. Team’s 19-11 victory over the International Team. His appointment continues a tradition of engaging world leaders across political boundaries, according to PGA Tour officials. The role underscores the Presidents Cup’s established practice of involving sitting and former heads of state in the prestigious international competition.
Brandt Snedeker will captain the 12-man U.S. Team, while Australia’s Geoff Ogilvy leads the International Team’s roster of equal size. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp stated that Trump’s participation will enhance the event’s visibility globally while advancing the organization’s goal of using golf as a unifying force.
Trump confirmed his acceptance through Truth Social, expressing enthusiasm for the competition and stating he looked forward to meeting the competing athletes. Trump becomes the seventh U.S. president to serve as honorary chairman, following Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford.
