The Democratic Socialists of America’s national co-chair openly acknowledged the organization’s sweeping platform to dismantle major governmental institutions during a television interview Sunday, underscoring the widening ideological gap within Democratic ranks. Megan Romer confirmed to Fox News anchor Shannon Bream that the DSA platform includes eliminating the Senate, replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, dissolving national borders with amnesty provisions, and phasing out prisons.

Romer characterized the Senate as an “anachronistic institution” rooted in British parliamentary traditions designed to constrain popular power. She outlined the DSA’s vision to replace the bicameral legislative structure with a significantly expanded, single-chamber Congress that would grant ordinary Americans greater influence over governance.

Defending the DSA’s strategy of running candidates on Democratic ballots rather than establishing an independent party, Romer argued that ballot access laws create insurmountable barriers for third parties. She emphasized that voter selection ultimately determines candidate viability, citing overwhelming electoral support for DSA-backed candidates in competitive races.

The remarks intensify existing tensions between party moderates and progressive wings, with senior Democrats increasingly vocal about concerns that embracing DSA positions threatens electoral viability and broader voter coalitions.
