Authorities in Seattle are actively investigating an incident in which two men illegally parachuted from the city’s renowned Space Needle observation tower on Friday evening. The suspects, described only as white males appearing to be in their late 20s, remain unidentified and at large following the unauthorized jump from the 605-foot structure, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The pair purchased valid admission tickets and entered the Space Needle around 8:50 p.m., police said. Security footage captured them reaching the top observation level, entering a restroom, and emerging wearing helmets before running toward the glass barrier surrounding the deck, climbing over it, and leaping into the air.
Security personnel were unable to determine where the men landed after deploying their parachutes, and law enforcement has not been able to locate them. The individuals face trespassing charges in connection with the incident, according to Seattle Police Public Affairs Officer Brian Pritchard.
BASE jumping—an acronym referring to jumps from buildings, antennas, bridges, and natural formations—is classified as an extreme sport. The Space Needle had not responded to requests for comment regarding the incident as of Saturday.
