Ryan Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in an upcoming Marvel Studios film scheduled for 2028 theatrical release. The announcement came Saturday during Comic-Con International’s Hall H presentation in San Diego, where Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige introduced the casting to approximately 7,000 fans. The project reunites Gosling with director Shawn Levy, who previously helmed their collaboration on “Star Wars: Starfighter.”
The character’s film rights recently reverted to Marvel after years with Sony Pictures. Ghost Rider previously appeared in a 2007 standalone film starring Nicolas Cage and again in a 2012 sequel, though the character has not yet been integrated into the MCU’s interconnected narrative. Gosling’s longtime partner Eva Mendes appeared alongside Cage in the original 2007 film.
Feige also revealed plans to re-release the Russo Brothers’ 2019 “Avengers: Endgame” on September 25 with new footage connecting it to the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” arriving December 18. Hall H attendees included appearances from Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, with many waiting over 24 hours for entry to Marvel’s flagship panel.
