Venezuelan Relief Effort in South Florida Intensifies One Month After Devastating Earthquakes

A month has passed since consecutive earthquakes struck Venezuela, yet relief operations across South Florida show no signs of slowing. Thousands of people remain unaccounted for, prompting humanitarian organizations and local volunteers to maintain an intensive push to deliver critical supplies and locate missing residents across the affected regions.

The Global Empowerment Mission, operating from its Doral warehouse, has emerged as a central hub for the relief campaign. The organization’s director of logistics, Billy Richardson, reported that GEM has dispatched 2,433 pallets containing over 3 million pounds of emergency supplies worth more than $12 million in total humanitarian aid to Venezuela since the earthquakes occurred.

Beyond warehouse operations, GEM maintains active teams on the ground in Venezuela managing two distribution centers. Richardson noted that supplies are being distributed to survivors nearly every day, ensuring that aid reaches those in greatest need as quickly as possible.

Volunteers have proven essential to sustaining the relief effort, with some making extraordinary personal commitments. Richardson highlighted instances of volunteers using all available paid time off and others leaving their employment entirely to support the mission.

Despite the substantial response mobilized so far, Richardson stressed that recovery remains in its early stages. The organization continues appealing for donations of canned goods, proteins, vegetables, and fruits, along with financial contributions and volunteer assistance as humanitarian needs persist.
