Connecticut Sun guard Saniya Rivers took to social media following Wednesday’s lopsided loss to the Indiana Fever, rejecting any suggestion she should accept disrespect on the court. The Fever dominated the matchup 123-88, but Rivers’ post-game comments focused on her refusal to back down from confrontation regardless of the score.
The confrontation occurred late in the third quarter with Indiana leading 95-67 and just 28.8 seconds remaining. Rivers approached Caitlin Clark after a foul and declared she was being “locked up,” prompting Clark to repeatedly gesture toward the scoreboard and shout in response. Officials intervened by issuing double technical fouls to both players.
Clark, who finished with 27 points and 11 assists in 27 minutes of play on 8-of-13 shooting, now carries seven technicals this season. WNBA rules dictate that an eighth technical automatically triggers a one-game suspension without pay, placing the league’s marquee player one infraction away from missing a game.
Rivers defended her conduct on Threads, stating she would never tolerate disrespect and would continue competing intensely as long as time remained on the clock. The exchange represents another flashpoint in what has become an increasingly contentious season for Clark both on and off the court.
