The infraction occurred late in the third quarter when an exchange between Clark and Sun player Saniya Rivers escalated after a foul call, leading officials to assess technical fouls to both players.

With Indiana holding a commanding 95-67 lead, Rivers confronted Clark following a foul called on Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Clark responded by gesturing toward the scoreboard, prompting the referee to penalize her. “She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard,’ and the ref didn’t like that,” Clark explained in her postgame comments.
