Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is on the brink of a one-game suspension after accumulating her seventh technical foul of the season during Wednesday night’s matchup against the Connecticut Sun. The infraction occurred late in the third quarter when an exchange between Clark and Sun player Saniya Rivers escalated after a foul call, leading officials to assess technical fouls to both players.
With Indiana holding a commanding 95-67 lead, Rivers confronted Clark following a foul called on Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Clark responded by gesturing toward the scoreboard, prompting the referee to penalize her. “She said she was locking me up, so I said, ‘Scoreboard,’ and the ref didn’t like that,” Clark explained in her postgame comments.
Clark emphasized her commitment to maintaining her competitive edge despite the looming suspension threshold. She acknowledged the need to balance emotional control with the intensity that defines her playing style while ensuring her team has her on the court. The Fever defeated Connecticut 123-88, with Clark recording 27 points and 11 assists in just 27 minutes while shooting 8-of-13 from the field and converting five three-pointers.
Indiana improved to 17-10 with the victory and currently holds fifth place in the WNBA standings. Clark ranks fourth in league scoring with a 21-point average and second in assists at 7.9 per game. Connecticut, led by Diamond Miller’s 15 points, dropped to 7-20 on the season.
