A fatal collision at a Pompano Beach bus stop claimed one life Tuesday morning after a white BMW struck a concrete bench and several parked vehicles at a nearby dealership. The incident unfolded along South Federal Highway in the 500 block, leaving investigators to piece together the sequence of events that preceded the deadly impact. Emergency responders arrived to find extensive structural damage at the scene, including two concrete light poles, a tree, and a bus shelter torn from its foundation.

According to Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators, the crash began moments earlier when the vehicle rear-ended a Honda Accord, then continued northbound for approximately four blocks before striking the bus stop. The 47-year-old driver, identified as Jo Ann Llera, remained in the vehicle and sustained injuries requiring hospitalization. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether charges will be filed against her as she recovers.

Emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls in the immediate aftermath of the collision. One caller reported observing a vehicle flip during impact, while another described the sound as resembling an explosion. A third caller expressed uncertainty about whether the victim had been ejected or remained trapped, reflecting the chaos that engulfed the location just before 1 p.m.

Witnesses who experienced the blast-like noise acknowledged the severity of the damage to the single vehicle involved. The identity of the deceased man waiting at the bus stop has not been released by law enforcement.
