Actor Kelsey Grammer has sounded an alarm about the direction of American education, contending that citizens lacking knowledge of the nation’s founding are susceptible to manipulation. During an appearance on “Planet Tyrus” Tuesday, Grammer advocated for sweeping changes to the education system while defending the Founding Fathers against characterizations that dismiss them as irrelevant historical figures. “If you don’t know where you come from, you don’t know who you are. If you don’t know who you are, you can be controlled,” Grammer stated.

Grammer emphasized that the nation’s educational infrastructure requires fundamental restructuring to reverse what he views as neglect of American origins. He rejected dismissals of the Founding Fathers, highlighting that Thomas Jefferson authored what many consider history’s most significant political document at just 33 years old. According to Grammer, the American Revolution centered on ideological principles rather than identity markers, an emphasis he believes educators should restore.

The former star of “Frasier” and “Cheers” has recently engaged with historical content through his starring role in “Young Washington,” a film examining George Washington’s early life, and his narration of the Fox Nation series “The Patriot War,” which covered pivotal moments leading to the nation’s 250th anniversary. Grammer contends that understanding America’s past provides essential guidance for navigating contemporary challenges, yet believes younger generations are increasingly disconnected from this foundation.

Grammer stressed that the Founding Fathers envisioned an aspirational nation constantly striving toward improvement rather than claiming perfection. He noted that 56 signatories of the Declaration of Independence suffered devastating personal consequences for their convictions, with some losing family members to violence and imprisonment. Their willingness to endure such hardship reflects a character and resilience, Grammer suggested, that remains embedded in the American spirit today.
