Miami Beach Police Arrest Man Accused of Orchestrating Luxury Vehicle Theft Ring

Exclusive video footage released Tuesday documents the arrest of a suspect Miami Beach authorities say orchestrated an intricate operation targeting owners of expensive vehicles being shipped out of state. Police took 30-year-old Hakam Shahin of Oakland Park into custody on June 26 near the 5600 block of Collins Avenue in Miami Beach, according to detention records. Investigators allege he directed a conspiracy that compromised the digital systems of vehicle transport companies to facilitate thefts.

The criminal operation relied on unauthorized access to dispatch systems maintained by legitimate towing firms, enabling perpetrators to extract victim information and then fraudulently pose as authorized transport companies. Miami Beach Police Officer Christopher Bess explained that hackers penetrated dispatch networks, gathered client details, and impersonated hired tow operators before vehicles disappeared from victims’ possession. Security footage documented a tow truck removing a Range Rover valued at approximately $125,000 from a victim’s residence as part of the investigation.

Law enforcement determined that many tow truck operators unknowingly participated in the thefts without awareness they were transporting stolen property. Investigators connected Shahin to multiple incidents across separate cases, including one in which a victim faced an extortion demand of $100,000 to recover a stolen Porsche. Authorities have successfully recovered several of the allegedly stolen luxury vehicles linked to the scheme.

Shahin faces charges including first-degree grand theft exceeding $100,000, organized scheme to defraud, and threats with extortion. Police recommend vehicle owners install secondary GPS tracking devices inside cars before arranging transport to prevent similar crimes.
