Golf Community Shows Concern Over Tiger Woods’ Appearance in First Video Since March DUI Arrest

Tiger Woods emerged from months of seclusion to deliver a pre-recorded message honoring fellow golfer Notah Begay at the Payne Stewart Award ceremony Tuesday evening. The 50-year-old champion’s first public appearance since returning from Swiss rehabilitation in May drew immediate attention from golf fans monitoring his recovery from a March driving-under-the-influence arrest in Florida.

In his recorded remarks, Woods praised Begay’s philanthropic contributions to Native American communities, noting that Begay has helped more than 80,000 youths and their families through various initiatives including a sports complex in San Felipe. Woods recalled their long friendship dating back to his youth as an 11-year-old junior golfer and commended Begay’s work both on and off the professional tour, where Begay won four times and competed in the President’s Cup.

Social media users expressed mixed reactions to Woods’ appearance, with some expressing concern about his physical condition while others noted his appearance seemed unremarkable. The brief video marked Woods’ second public outing since his May return, following his introduction of PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp at a news conference last month.

Woods faces a scheduled court appearance on September 8 regarding his March DUI charge, which resulted in his arrest on Jupiter Island with two opioid pills found in his possession. The incident led to his departure for rehabilitation treatment in April before his return the following month.
