A suspect was taken into custody Monday evening following a police pursuit that culminated at a canal’s edge in Plantation’s residential areas. Law enforcement personnel concentrated their efforts near Hiatus Road and Sunrise Boulevard, where the vehicle came to rest partially in the waterway.

The chase originated when a driver refused to comply with officers’ commands to stop near North University Drive and Cleary Boulevard. During the pursuit, the suspect abandoned the vehicle, which resulted in the car’s front section becoming partially submerged in the canal, according to police statements.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office deployed K9 units and a helicopter to assist in locating and apprehending the suspect. Authorities did not immediately disclose the suspect’s identity.
