Molly Gillihan is pushing back forcefully against suggestions that she destroyed Ryan Lochte’s marriage, insisting the kindergarten teacher’s relationship with the Olympic swimmer commenced only after his separation from ex-wife Kayla Rae Reid was already underway. Gillihan told TMZ that she did not initiate contact with Lochte until after Reid had filed for divorce in spring, characterizing Reid’s recent claims to People magazine as inaccurate.

According to Gillihan’s account, she and Lochte met through their shared divorce attorney and initially went out for drinks without expectation of a serious relationship. “I did not break up your marriage. I’m not a homewrecker. Your home was broken. When I met Ryan, he was not living in the home,” Gillihan stated, directly addressing Reid’s narrative of secretive communication and infidelity.

Lochte proposed to Gillihan before his divorce decree was finalized, a timing that may have fueled Reid’s recent decision to speak publicly about the circumstances surrounding her marriage’s dissolution. The couple has since relocated from Gainesville to Missouri, where Lochte works as a college swimming coach while both his fiancée and former wife engage in interviews about the disputed timeline of events.
