Royal biographer Tina Brown disclosed Saturday that Meghan Markle will not be joining the cast of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Netflix series “The Gentlemen,” revealing the decision came after substantial controversy in Britain. Brown, a former editor-in-chief at Vanity Fair and the New Yorker, announced the development through her “Fresh Hell” Substack newsletter, stating that the casting withdrawal occurred due to public sentiment becoming too challenging to overcome.

Initial reports emerged Friday indicating Markle had been in preliminary discussions for a role in the yet-to-be-announced third season of the British action-comedy series. The casting would have represented her first acting credit since joining the royal family through her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry, marking a significant return to her entertainment career.

Brown, author of “The Diana Chronicles” and “The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor,” cautioned that the casting reversal suggests difficulties ahead for Markle’s professional ambitions in the United Kingdom. Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner warned that renewed focus on the couple’s entertainment endeavors could strain relations between the couple and Prince William and Kate, further complicating dynamics between the estranged brothers.

The casting consideration surfaced as Markle and Harry announced plans to relocate their family back to England by month’s end. The couple maintains an active Netflix partnership that began in 2020 following their departure from royal duties, including their 2022 docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” which drew criticism of palace operations.
