A 27-year-old Miami resident has been charged with aggravated battery following a violent confrontation that occurred inside a moving vehicle in Coral Gables early Thursday morning. Authorities said the incident resulted in a motor vehicle crash that sent one of the occupants to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to Coral Gables police, Mariah Rose Scuiletti of Shorecrest and the vehicle’s driver engaged in a physical struggle on Segovia Street just after midnight. The confrontation escalated when Scuiletti struck the driver in the neck and pulled her hair, prompting the driver to grab the steering wheel to defend herself, which caused the car to leave the roadway and collide with a tree.
The victim sustained minor injuries and received treatment at Baptist Health Doctors Hospital. In an arrest report, Scuiletti claimed she had attempted to reach across the center console to press the brake pedal before impact, though officers noted signs she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Scuiletti was taken into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she awaited a bond hearing as of Thursday afternoon, according to jail records.
