South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers has traded his final semester course load for an internship at The Par Tee Golf Center in West Columbia, having already completed all degree requirements for his sports and entertainment major. The arrangement allows the starting quarterback to focus exclusively on football while fulfilling his remaining academic obligations through practical work experience. This path represents the final step in Sellers’ four-year academic career with the Gamecocks.
The internship duties consist of standard golf facility management tasks, which Sellers described to reporters as “cutting grass and picking up balls like that.” While the quarterback earns substantial monthly income through name, image and likeness deals, his internship work remains consistent with typical college student employment. The arrangement is commonplace for athletes in their final semester, allowing them to balance professional football commitments with degree completion.
Sellers previously interned with Contract Construction, the firm hired to oversee the renovation and design of Williams-Brice Stadium on campus. During that experience, he attended meetings with the Oklahoma-based construction group and gained insight into the stadium project before most observers. The quarterback has expressed interest in pursuing engineering or a career in building design once his football career concludes.
Similar situations have drawn public attention in college sports, most recently when Miami quarterback Carson Beck disclosed he was not enrolled in classes during his final semester. Unlike popular misconceptions, athletes in this position earn their degrees through substantive work and internship experiences rather than receiving unearned credentials.
