Beijing hosted the opening of its 2026 World Robot Conference on Wednesday, drawing displays from across China’s rapidly expanding robotics sector as manufacturers attempt to transition cutting-edge machines from laboratory settings into widespread industrial and commercial deployment. The five-day event is expected to feature approximately 3,000 products, according to organizers, though participation appeared limited to Chinese companies.
Unitree, among the nation’s most prominent humanoid robot manufacturers, commanded significant attention at the conference with demonstrations of boxing, dancing, and ping pong competition. The company’s booth debut coincided with its initial public offering on the Shanghai stock exchange, marking a milestone for the industry.
UBTECH Robotics also unveiled multiple models designed for industrial applications, including machines equipped with mechanical arms and hands capable of performing factory floor tasks. The company’s emotional-support humanoid robots, featuring articulated facial expressions and neck rotation, are marketed to individual consumers at a price of 168,000 yuan, approximately $24,000.
The conference timing follows recent U.S. Federal Communications Commission action banning imports of foreign-made humanoid and quadruped robots, citing cybersecurity and national security concerns. Despite advancing capabilities, industry experts caution that many humanoid robots remain demonstration-focused rather than fully functional for practical work, with some struggling to execute routine tasks like folding clothing.
