Taylor Sheridan has made clear his disdain for Los Angeles, calling the city an “awful place” with little to offer beyond exercise during a recent podcast appearance. The 56-year-old writer, director and showrunner stated he has not set foot in the California metropolis for seven years despite his status as one of Hollywood’s most prolific content producers.
Sheridan has built a television empire from Granbury, Texas, creating some of the industry’s most successful programs including “Yellowstone,” “Landman,” “Lioness,” “Tulsa King” and numerous other series. His Bosque Ranch headquarters and SGS Studios in Fort Worth serve as primary production facilities for his projects, with both locations featuring sound stages and constructed sets used throughout his various productions.
The producer’s management philosophy stems from his early experiences as an actor in Los Angeles, where he witnessed behavior from directors he found objectionable. Sheridan emphasized the importance of treating crew members with respect and appreciation, rejecting what he termed a “leadership by frustration” approach that creates hostile work environments.
Actors working with Sheridan have praised his creative vision and collaborative approach. Michael Kelly, who appears in “Lioness,” told industry outlets that Sheridan represents a unique talent with exceptional storytelling abilities. Zoe Saldaña highlighted his skill in writing complex, realistic female characters, noting his understanding of how to portray women with depth and nuance both professionally and personally.
